Episode Synopsis: Garry finds it hard to talk to men he fancies while Ryan has never had a boyfriend. Military man Emmerson wants to trust again. Will a dance with Ruby bring the confidence back?
My Role: I loved being one of the core Shooting PDs for the entire Flirty Dancing series 2. In this episode I shot the backstories for both Emmerson and for Ruby. Their stories had synergies and emotional resonance; on paper they were the perfect match. What unfolded was a surprising first date and reaction which is testament to concept of Flirty Dancing; we either feel that spark or we don't.
Working with Ashley Banjo: When I wasn't shooting backstories, I was delighted to be Ashley Banjo's PD, shooting presenter links and live reactions to the dance itself. None of the other PDs could level up to Ash's fantastic 6 ft 5 stature, so I literally 'stepped up' and always had a bench or stool on hand to prop me up to meet his eye level. He's by far my favourite talent to work with - talented, professional, fun, passionate about the format and a total geek.
Why is it a dream PD role? We are given creative carte blanhce to bring to life a filmic backstory based on a day in the life of the contributor. Being able to draw from some of my favourite moves is a dream come true and being given the proper time to light and compose shots is what it's all about. I pride myself on getting brilliant and emotionally layered interviews - so being able to deliver the content with shots means I was super proud of what went out.
